What is Malware?
The word "Malware" is short for malicious software. Malware includes computer viruses, spyware, adware, trojan horses, worms, rootkits, backdoors, keyloggers & screen scrapers just to name the main ones. What is a Computer Virus?
A computer virus is an executable program that can copy itself and infect a computer. Viruses rely on user intervention to spread such as opening an infected file, document or email.
What is Spyware or Adware?
Are for-profit programs designed to monitor a users browsing habits and display unsolicited advertisments via popups, new browser windows or redirecting the user's browsers to other sites in an effort to force the user to a site where the creator of the spyware will profit. Spyware programs are most often contained in peer-to-peer applications such as in illegal music or file sharing applications.

My Personal Experience Using Avast!®
Over the years I have bought and tried all the other major anti-virus programs. Each had a few nice features but in the end each either didn't fully protect me or installed a number of other programs that just caused my PCs to run slow or become unstable. Most often the only resolution has been to uninstall the program.
A collegue introduced me to Avast!® about a year ago. I test drove the trial version for about a month and then purchased a full version. I have had no issues with any of my PCs. The program and virus definitions are automatically updated on a regular basis. In my experience the virus definitions update at least once a day. Somedays I've seen the virus definitions update more than once. This is a comfortable feeling knowing that the staff at Avast!® is constantly working to keep my PC safe.
